Switch on your Wi-Fi: The Magnetic Terrace is taking its programme online
Spirituality has returned to our lives. We’re living in an era when technology and wellbeing converge in apps that promise to elevate us, help us ascend to nirvana. Techno-magical bracelets offer the assurance of holistic wellness based on data, heartbeats and hours of sleep. Ultimately, promises of finding a bit of peace and introspection in the midst of the tension and stress of urban life. In an age of contradictions, we waver between irony and magical thinking, not absorbing all those mystical nutrients yet still longing for something remarkable to happen to us.
In this atypical year, The Magnetic Terrace, Madrid’s irresistible pole of attraction in the summer months, will become an astral gateway to other latitudes and altitudes. An invitation to unite our vibrational frequencies through technology, to prove that we’re still connected despite our physical separation, thrilling to the vibes of nature through music and film.
On the Filmin channel of La Casa Encendida, you’ll find a selection of eight films that explore new spiritualities, the search for answers, the bond with nature or the vulnerability of human existence.
On the musical plane, Spanish and international artists will gather at La Casa Encendida, striking up dialogues between concerts at La Casa and astral connections with Los Angeles, Tokyo, New York, Cayenne and Copenhagen.
Rising stars of meditative electronic music like Sofie Birch and Dømochevsky join legends of mystical improvisation such as Carlos Niño and Laraaji, who will guide us through a session of laughter therapy and tonal immersion. La Casa has also invited back old friends like the Japanese Synth Sisters, who will present a live audiovisual show, and guru Suso Sáiz. Reflect on individual decolonisation by connecting with Tabita Rezaire for a yoga session, or on how the Anthropocene affects the perception of plants at a concert of the Institute for Postnatural Studies with special guest José Venditti. Anthonius, Tidiane and Syla & Schwartz will offer us a fusion of Guinean folk and 80s beats. If you’re in the mood for meditation, join Oklou and her musicians in a brand-new ambient session. Or discover unexplored corners of The Terrace with the dance moves of Inés Escaned and the music of Estades. The final ascension will be orchestrated by Sonido Tupinamba, our very own Andean shaman, who will guide us through a sequence of wild and festive sounds in the final session of this year’s Magnetic Terrace.
