YOU GOT TO GET IN TO GET OUT: The Never-ending Sound Continuum

From 05 November to 10 December

La Casa Encendida
Ronda de Valencia, 2
Madrid
28012
Spain

Peder Mannerfelt, Valentino Mora, Adriana Lopez, Laura BCR, Topanga Kiddo and Grand River are the names in the live music programme YOU GOT TO GET IN TO GET OUT, an investigative approach to techno culture and the dancefloor. The immediate association between techno music and clubs is suspended again, offering a different kind of listening experience at La Casa Encendida's auditorium. When the lights at the club come on, the listening continues.

The programme begins with the Swedish producer Peder Mannerfelt, whose current investigations in the field of experimental dance music are as prolific as they are unpredictable, offering a highly individual take on techno. Valentino Mora explores drone rhythm structures to create a style of musical composition akin to the mystical frequencies in underwater acoustics. Adriana Lopez is one of the most prominent artists on the international techno scene and widely acclaimed as a pioneer and key figure in Colombian electronic music. French dj Laura BCR, founder of the On Board Music label, brings to La Casa Encendida her sessions of dubby ambient and deep techno. Topanga Kiddo is interested in decentralising club culture and taking it to rural environments. Her wide range of electronic sounds spans EBM and the bakalao of her native Valencia as well as the sounds of global ghettoes like kuduro, footwork and Spanish trap. The programme ends with the Dutch-Italian composer and sound designer Grand River who draws on the influence of classical minimalist music to combine traditional composition with her investigations of contemporary sounds.

As the curators Carolina Jiménez and Sonia Fernández Pan explain, “Listening has always been an essential part of our investigations. Our aim with this concert cycle is to create a material body for a type of listening that exists beyond situations, temporality and the (rhythm) structures of the club and dancefloor. The artists we present enter, stay a while and then leave techno, stimulating different intensities, rhythms and frequencies to perpetuate a hypnotic community of bodies in a relative state of repose.”
