She Makes Noise 2021

For the first time, Madrid audiences will have a chance to enjoy the work of Ziúr, a producer, DJ and active member of Berlin’s queer scene, with her new album just released by the prestigious PAN label; and Berlin-based Brazilian DJ and performer Slim Soledad, with ties to both club culture and art centres and festivals across Europe.

Electronic music is proving to be an excellent channel for promoting the work of a considerable number of trans artists who identify with practices outside the bounds of prevailing normativity.

Ziúr is presenting her enigmatic third album, Antifate, in Spain for the first time. Her previous album, ATØ (2019), offered a sneak preview of the contorted vocals over an electronic backdrop that have now come into their own on Antifate, where she tells an imaginary, mythological story. The album is an abstract reference to Cockaigne (Land of Plenty), a medieval utopia where no one had to work, food was abundant, and wine flowed freely—an escapist fantasy for the peasants of the Middle Ages. As the space between our private worlds widens, this fantasy becomes alluring once more: “a place where we feel free, with the people who allow us that freedom”. Ziúr has created a fantastical, magical soundtrack based on the idea of closeness and connection, at a time when we have been forced to distance ourselves for months due to the pandemic. It is an album about freedom, and she has never sounded so free.

Slim Soledad, a Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist from São Paulo, Brazil, also known as a member of the queer collective Chernobyl, sees herself in these terms: “I’m a transvestite, I’m black and I’m Brazilian.” She started out several years ago as a DJ spinning funk, but since then her sets and shows have taken a radical turn towards more challenging, wild performances that hinge on ideas like martyrdom in connection with bodies that mutate and transform. Today Slim Soledad is a shining star of Berlin’s electronic scene, where she combines a wide variety of sounds that range from her Brazilian and African American roots to the European underground, vogue aesthetics and contemporary dance. In 2020 she participated in the electronic culture festival CTM Berlin. This will be her first performance in Madrid.
