Korakrit Arunanondchai and Alex Gvojic, "Songs for living", 2021
Korakrit Arunanondchai’s exhibition is the final scene of the curatorial journey Fantastic Interior, curated by Rafa Barber Cortell.
A multimedia and video artist from Bangkok, Korakrit Arunanondchai combines historical narratives with his personal cosmology in order to tell a new, non-linear story that unfolds in different geographical settings. In this way, he crafts a new collective body that investigates the symbols via which collective consciousness is constructed and expressed.
The way intimacy is manifested in the spiritual and the technological are also constant themes in his praxis, which tends to navigate the symbolic universe constructed by this dialogue.
On this occasion, the artist presents an installation that examines the notion of the ghost as a metaphor for suppressed and overlooked stories. Arunanondchai’s immersive installation, which also includes a video, explores how official political bodies deal with traumatic and violent events, the legacy of the victims, and political figures who seem as inaccessible and aloof from the living as ghosts.
The artist thus unites his personal, intimate experience with spirituality, technology, animist beliefs, politics and the global narrative.
