Warhol on Warhol

Room A, Room B, Room C

La Casa Encendida organised this show to celebrate its 5th anniversary. According to the curator, Estrella de Diego, "One of the main aims of the exhibition is to show the different techniques Warhol used and exhibit them, above all, as something like preparatory drawings, using repetitions of images in different formats to emphasise Andy Warhol's narrative formula, his way of narrating the world, which never varied, by means of the camera, stitched photos, Polaroid prints, photo booth strips, films, paintings. Warhol on Warhol attempts to show a side of Warhol with which Spanish audiences are less familiar, a Warhol who at every step—as evidenced by his working method—transfers the mantle of authorship to any willing beholder: in other words, to you."

The show features more than 200 works from institutions, private collections and galleries, some of which—like the acetates and Polaroid prints, rarely exhibited due to their delicate condition—have never been publicly shown before. It also includes photographs taken by both Warhol and his friends during different periods of his life. In addition to Warhol himself, artists like Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Christopher Makos, Robert Mapplethorpe, Duane Michals, Ugo Mulas and Helmut Newton are represented in the show.
