The Magnetic Terrace 2019

Marie Losier is renowned for her sensitive and intimate screen portrayals of extravagant cultural figures like Genesis P-Orridge, Alan Vega and Peaches. Here the protagonist is Cassandro, a legendary Mexican wrestler who has elevated the status of the Exoticos, homosexual wrestlers traditionally mocked as buffoons, to the status of respected athletes.

Cassandro, the Exotico!, by Marie Losier. France, 2018. 70’. Original soundtrack with Spanish subtitles

Marie Losier (France, 1972) is an iconic figure in the world of experimental and avant-garde film. French by birth, she moved to New York in 1994 to study fine art and has forged most of her career in the United States. Her filmography largely consists of 16mm portraits of some of the leading figures of underground culture. After making numerous short films, she presented her first full-length feature film, The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye, at the Berlin festival in 2011, where it won two awards.
