The music and film festival she makes noise is turning five, and to celebrate the occasion, we’re putting the October audiovisual programme at La Casa Encendida under its influence with a selection of works steeped in the spirit of She, shining a spotlight on feminist activism and the transgender struggle.
“Under the Influence of she makes noise” presents three recent films that challenge the heteronormative system and patriarchal society. These politically engaged productions portray contemporary society, exploring its limits and penetrating its cracks and crevices.
Working from a feminist perspective, with an increasingly fluid, diverse, cross-cutting and inclusive notion of She, this programme features two films directed by women and a third by a transgender artist. Romantic polyamorous dramas, sci-fi comedies and social documentaries will roll into Madrid from Los Angeles, New York and South Africa, questioning binary gender identity and all the prejudices imposed by a society that masks and muzzles those who step outside the bounds of normalcy. Formal risk is a constant presence in the selected titles of this cycle, which showcases filmmakers and visual artists who experiment with image and sound and refuse to conform to industry standards.
