The Magnetic Terrace 2019

This portrait of the underground icon of the comic book world, Robert Crumb, is built around conversations with close relatives and former partners, revealing the most personal and complex side of this quintessential figure as well as details about the darker side of his life, his misanthropy and the sexual obsessions that have marked his work.

Crumb, by Terry Zwigoff. United States, 1994. 120’. Original soundtrack with Spanish subtitles

Terry Zwigoff (Appleton, United States, 1949) is a flimmaker and musician who plays the cello and mandolin. In the 1970s he moved to San Francisco, where he met Robert Crumb and joined his string band, R. Crumb & His Cheap Suit Serenaders, recording several records with them. As a filmmaker, he is renowned for his works related to the underground comic book world. After directing the documentary Crumb (1994), in 2001 he turned to fiction and directed Ghost World, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Daniel Clowes, who wrote the screenplay and with whom Zwigoff teamed up again five years later to make Art School Confidential (2006).
