She Makes Noise remains committed to experimentation and risk in its proposals, without overlooking the need to cater for and promote the local cultural community. Concepts like activism, participation, Afrofuturism and post-feminism will be explored in drone, Afro-bass, ambient and techno music sessions at the festival’s sixth edition.
This year She Makes Noise is permeated by the coronavirus pandemic, an event of worldwide impact that is conditioning our lives. Faced with a situation that’s impossible to ignore, the festival has decided to turn the tables. Here the virus is us, mutating and advancing in this new normality. We have never been so close to a fictional dystopia and a total upheaval of the system. Change everything! is one of the slogans of the new era.
By embracing this attitude, we can connect with the local scene like never before and forge stronger ties with the community in a hybrid festival of digital and physical encounters. Activism, participation, Afrofuturism and post-feminist theory are more than just words; they’re concepts that will dominate this event, with a special focus on showing the diversity that inhabits the various rhythms of electronic music.
The line-up for She Makes Noise 2020 includes musical performances that will be streamed live on the YouTube channel of La Casa Encendida and available for one month; a film cycle featuring five premieres in our country, which this year shines the spotlight on the elderly; a visual arts workshop; a performance of the En Familia programme designed specifically for the festival; and a talk/discussion where guest speakers and audience members will reflect on the current situation.
A year on the calendar of humanity that we will never forget. The future is now.
