Yves B. Golden: Calling Eden - Exhuming Softness

The evening program begins with a sound bath by Yves B. Golden, created especially for Thunder and Light. The audio dreches the audience in healing tones and instructional self healing tracks, spliced by social critique and provocations. B. Golden is interested in making healing accessible, especially to black and indigenous people, and also to critique the illusion of scarcity that is embedded in the wellness industry, our current cultural climate and within ourselves. The soundscape hopes to summon the everlasting healing resources within each of us. The piece has a duration of one hour.

Yves B. Golden is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, dj and organizer. Her work explores visibility, dignity and the sacred bond that exists between memory and physical objects. She recently co-founded the Herbal Mutual Aid Network alongside Remy Maelen in spring of 2020. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California.

Leticia Ybarra & Berenice: Get away xxxxx

A live poetry reading and musical contribution by poet, artist and curator Leticia Ybarra in collaboration with dj and producer Berenice (Vera Amores). With a new series of poems, uveilled for the first time as part of the program, Ybarra conjures the spirits and queer legacies of dancer Vaslav Nijinsky and poet Jack Spicer. The latter also used his poetry to channel and communicate with the then deceased Federico García Lorca. Conceived like a radio signal receiving short transmissions that constantly switches roles, the performance follows a collage-like structure and will attempt to deform the machinery that makes language appear transparent.

Leticia Ybarra lives and works in Madrid. They are the author of Fantasmita eres pegamento (Caniche Editorial, 2021) and a professor of Critical Studies (IED). Together with Beatriz Ortega Botas they curate the poetry and art project Juf. Their work has been presented in CentroCentro (Madrid), Intersticio (London), Haus Wien (Vienna), Cordova (Barcelona), Fluent (Santander) and in Libros Mutantes Art Book Fair (La Casa Encendida, Madrid). In 2021 they co-curated the study program Gear With Petals at Hangar (Barcelona). Currently they are in residence at Gasworks (London) and have a forthcoming residency at Tabakalera (San Sebastián).

Vera Amores aka Berenice is a model, dj, music producer and multidisciplinary artist. She began djing at madrid club nights such as Infierno de Yung Beef and the queer dissident party El Puñal Dorao. She, together with artist Perla Zúñiga aka jovendelaperla, founded the experimental electronic music collective CULPA, who since March 2020 have realised several parties in Siroco nightclub. In November of the same year she, together with Perla, premiered a show of poetry and experimental music called El Hechizo del Viejecito in the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Condeduque, as part of a cycle of Poem Room.

Cõvco: performance

With a new performative work created specifically for the Thunder and light program, multimedia artist and musician Cõvco takes the audience on a pilgrimage. Through ritual and catharsis, Cõvco culls from epic biblical narratives and her own experiences navigating the complexities of living as a practicing christian in today's world. The narrative unfolds in four parts, each of which is immersed in its own environment made by the artist.
