The illness that took Rubén away and gave birth to Perla. Perla (jovendelaperla / girlwithapearlearring) is neither man nor woman. Perla was born of a disease, a treatment regimen. Perla is the product of a tumour.
Rubén Herranz (1996-2016) Perla (2016) is an artist and DJ currently working towards a BFA at the Complutense University of Madrid. She/He is one half of the musical duo Mercancía (the other being Carmen García), a member of the Sudor collective and works with the foundation La vida en rosa and Chéjere magazine. After suffering health problems, the artist has focused on using her/his body as a subject of study and work.
