Like a strange dream that seems to go on forever, The Awakening reanimates a building whose life appears to have expired long ago. Through an immersive installation comprised of fragments that make up the body of a building, a forgotten edifice is reactivated to provoke speculative thought about its past and future.
This exhibition presents selected works by artist Jiří Georg Dokoupil (Krnov, Czech Republic, 1954), who has been defying categorisation with his constantly mutating creative style from the 1980s to the present day.
When the pandemic brought the world to a halt, art centres, like many other venues, were forced to close their doors and make their contents digitally accessible in different formats, without time to truly reflect on the role of the art institution in the digital world.
YOU GOT TO GET IN TO GET OUT: El continuo sonoro que nunca se acaba [The Never-ending Sound Continuum] is a long-term research project based on the vision of techno as a cultural, social, historical and material entity.
La Casa Encendida reopens on 1 July, and we can’t wait to see you and begin this new era together. We’re taking every possible health and safety precaution in the open exhibition galleries, library and media library (…)
