The worst part of Honduras’s current crisis is the mass exodus of its population. Even as Mexico clamps down on Central American immigration with tougher policies designed to appease the US government, entire families are still striving to reach the “American dream”, fleeing from years of political, social and economic instability, which has only worsened since the 2009 coup d’état.

Duration: 2 hours

Speakers:

  • Xiomara Zelaya (Honduras), social communicator. In 2009, she and her family went into exile in the Dominican Republic after Manuel Zelaya, then president of Honduras, was deposed.
  • Whitney Godoy (Honduras), investigative reporter specialised in photojournalism. In 2018 she covered the migrant caravan from start to finish.
