The contributions that transsexual women are making in the field of art and culture have forced society to stand before the symbolic mirror of its own substantial contradictions with regard to diversity and international law.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

The principle of equality and non-discrimination is a cornerstone of the international system for the defence of human rights. Even so, transsexual women are still suffering discrimination and violence on a global scale and in every social sphere. But after long years of enforced silence, trans women have asserted their right to be seen and are here to stay, thanks to the daily struggles of countless individuals to put an end to the stigmatisation, legal prosecution and pathologisation of realities that make the dominant sexual order uncomfortable.

Guest speaker:

Daniela Vega (Chile), actress and opera singer. She earned critical acclaim for her leading role in A Fantastic Woman (2017), the first Chilean production to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. She was also the first transgender person in history to be a presenter at the Academy Awards. In April 2018, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In addition, she has won Best Actress at the Platino Awards, the Caleuche Awards, the Havana Film Festival and the Palm Springs Film Festival.
