Inspired by Gagaku (a type of Japanese classical music), Bulgarian and Gregorian chants, operatic styles and pop voices, Hatis Noit surrenders to the primal instrument that connects us to the very essence of humanity, nature and the universe: the voice.
Her artistic name is derived from Japanese folklore and means “stem of the lotus flower”. The lotus represents the living world, while its root represents the spirit world, so Hatis Noit is what connects the two. For the artist, music represents the netherworld with its ability to move and transport us to the other side; the past, a memory, our subconscious.
Hatis Noit discovered that singing was her calling at the age of 16 during a trek in Nepal to Buddha's birthplace. While staying at a women’s temple in Lumbini, one morning she heard someone singing. The voice led her to a female monk singing Buddhist chants. The sound moved her so intensely she was instantly aware of the visceral power of the human voice; a primal and instinctive instrument that connects us to the very essence of our humanity, nature and the universe.
