His performances have an almost ritualistic feel. With simplicity and joy, ICHI delivers a unique, fun, unusual and very danceable show.
His music is inspired by a wide variety of styles, including punk, reggae, dub and tribal music, as well as the sounds of daily life. He spends hours waiting to capture the perfect water droplet, rustle of book pages or any other sound he can use to make music.
ICHI (Nagoya, Japan) hails from Nagoya’s underground scene. He moved to the United Kingdom after meeting English singer-songwriter Rachael Dadd, now his wife, at a DIY festival in his hometown. ICHI has toured extensively as a solo artist in Japan, the UK and Europe, playing festivals like End of the Road, Latitude, Glastonbury and Late at Tate. He has also toured with David Byrne and groups such as American noise-pop band Deerhoof, who invited him to play with them in New York, Japan and the UK.
