Libros Mutantes 2026. Madrid Art Book Fair
In 2026, the independent book fair will host its largest edition to date, bringing together publishers, designers and artists from various countries over three days to showcase publications, graphic design projects and experimental works. With international guests, workshops and a new programme of continuous live music, Libros Mutantes will once again transform La Casa Encendida into a hub for the independent publishing scene.
Friday 24: 5pm–9pm | Saturday 25: 12pm–3pm / 5pm–9pm | Sunday 26: 12pm–3pm
From 24 to 26 April 2026, La Casa Encendida will host a new edition of Libros Mutantes Madrid Art Book Fair, one of the leading events dedicated to independent publishing on both the national and international stages. This edition will feature over 50% international exhibitors and the participation of countries never before represented, such as Iran, Egypt, South Korea and Greece, alongside a strong presence of European and American initiatives. Over three days, the fair will bring together these projects—selected via an open call—which work in publishing and design, creating a diverse space open to exchange.
This edition takes ‘The Illusion of Transparency’ as its central theme: the idea that what we think, feel or mean is self-evident to others. However, what we communicate is rarely perceived as we imagine it: some of the meaning is lost, shifted or interpreted differently. Libros Mutantes sits precisely at that juncture where meanings are neither self-evident nor shared by default, and where differences are not corrected but coexist. Rather than promising clarity, it offers a space where exchange, interpretations and unexpected encounters form part of the fair’s very experience.
The programme for Libros Mutantes 2026 will bring together international guests working in design, typography, publishing and visual culture. Among them is the prestigious graphic design studio Experimental Jetset, based in Amsterdam and founded by Marieke Stolk, Erwin Brinkers and Danny van den Dungen, whose practice focuses primarily on print publications and site-specific installations. Joining them is the Prague-based typography studio Displaay, which will explore the process of naming a typeface and the decisions involved in typographic design. We will also be joined by Able Zine, a London-based publication and creative platform driven by and for the disabled community, which will present a workshop dedicated to exploring accessibility strategies in editorial design.
The programme also features Sebastián Paduano, head of the La Geomofa project, who will set a live challenge based on the game GeoGuessr to explore how we view and interpret the world through Google Maps, transforming the everyday into an exercise in collective observation. Frankie Pizá, cultural critic and founder of FRANKA™, will also take part, presenting the talk Straight Outta Context. Drawing on phenomena such as rage bait, context fracking and memetic logic, his talk will analyse how images, references and cultural products circulate today in an ecosystem of constant decontextualisation.
The fair also reinforces its multidisciplinary nature, bringing together proposals linked to design, theory, photography, fanzines, illustration, art and literature, and taking self-publishing and the DIY spirit further by incorporating object-based practices into the selection of exhibitors. As a new feature, the programme will run continuously across different spaces within the building: the Laboratory will host talks, workshops and activities throughout the day, whilst the courtyard will feature a continuous programme of music selected via an open call. From 24 to 26 April, Libros Mutantes will once again take over La Casa Encendida with its largest and most international edition to date.
