Princesses and Darthvaders 2018

La Casa Encendida welcomes the fourth edition of the festival that uses guerrilla culture and humour to talk about feminisms. We’ll have Jessa Crispin, Puto Chino Maricón and Tríbade, drag and feminist self-defence workshops, Victoria Sin and the stand-up stylings of Ana Carolina and Jelen Morales, plus HJ Darger and Silvia Cruz in Vermouth, Press and Blablabla.

This year the Princesses and Darthvaders Festival wants to explore the challenges that contemporary feminism faces: effective inclusion and the dangers of capitalism. For this reason, we’ve added debate to the mix with the work of Jessa Crispin, fiercely critical of “light” feminism, in conversation with the writer María Fernanda Ampuero. Puto Chino Maricón [Bloody Chink Poof], the most corrosive artist on the Madrid scene, will give a live performance steeped in his signature pop irony and contemporary criticism. We’ll explore the boundaries of identity with Victoria Sin, a Canadian artist and gender hacker who uses drag to investigate the social spaces we occupy, and bring back the festival’s trademark stand-up routines with Argentine comedian Ana Carolina and Madrid native Jelen Morales. We’ll also enjoy the first concert in Madrid of the explosive ladies of Tríbade, the aperitif-session Vermouth, Press and Blablabla, Victoria Sin’s drag workshops and online feminist self-defence classes given by the Donestech collective.
