Jeanne Tripier. Creation and Delirium

10 Oct 2018

La Casa Encendida presents the exhibition Creation and delirium. Jeanne Tripier, curated by Aurora Herrera and focused on the texts, drawings and textile works made during the artist's first years of confinement in the Maison Blanche mental sanatorium, in Neuilly-sur-Marne, where she died in 1944.

Thanks to the work of Jean Dubuffet, these are currently part of the magnificent collection of the Collection de l'Art Brut of Lausanne, with which this exhibition has been developed. The figure and work of Jeanne Tripier (Paris, 1869-Neuilly-sur-Marne, 1944) show us aspects of artistic creation related to the fascination with the non-material world seen through altered states of consciousness. Its delicate embroidery, with inconcrete shapes and striking colors, as well as its enigmatic drawings, often accompanied by handwritten texts, allow us to embark on a journey through transgression, play and obsessive repetition, understood as the expression and therapy of a certain mental state.
