Prominent women scholars, activists and “artivists” will reflect on the right to preserve memory and tell the truth, collective strategies for combating the injustice and oblivion implicit in global femicidal policies that refuse to acknowledge women as legal persons with full rights.

Duration: 2 hours

Participants:

  • Pamela Yates (United States), filmmaker and human rights activist. Her documentaries narrate the quest for justice of collectives that have suffered extreme violence at the hands of governments and armed groups. Her work has helped to clarify crimes against humanity.
  • Sonia Herrera (Barcelona), PhD in Audiovisual Communication and Advertising, specialised in audiovisual studies from a gender perspective. She is an expert on edu-communication, peace journalism and feminist media criticism.
  • Rebeca Lane (Guatemala), an internationally renowned hip-hop singer. With a background in sociology, she is also a poet and has worked in theatre and spoken word. She is the founder of the “Somos guerreras” [We Are Warriors] movement.

Directed by: Mercedes Hernández, director of the Association of Guatemalan Women (AMG). Her research focuses on femicide and gender violence in different scenarios of armed conflict and “war-free zones”. She teaches post-graduate courses on gender and feminism, femicide and sexual violence, human rights and access to justice at several universities.

Coordinated by: Association of Guatemalan Women (AMG)
