Audimat vol. 1

1 Apr 2022

La Casa Encendida co-publishes, together with Audimat Éditions, the first volume in Spanish of the musical essay notebook.

Audimat Éditions is attentive to the echoes of life in music, and demonstrates this by translating and publishing essays on musical and social criticism, social history of music, counter-narratives and wild aesthetics.

The publishing house, launched in 2020, extends this effort in the dissemination of mostly Anglo-Saxon non-fiction figures, making available the texts of authors who have contributed to musical culture in their own literary style. It thus maintains a privileged relationship with the essay as a form of democratic and sensitive research that allows us to question the formation of our perceptions, our tastes, our subjectivities and our identities, with a range of inspirations that ranges from Adorno to Susan Sontag, Ediciones Maspero to Semiotext. We also investigate the way in which antagonisms linked to capitalism, patriarchy and imperialism/racism are prolonged and reworked in the ways of producing or listening to music. Audimat thus seeks to give a reflective account of the experience of modern life, its contradictions, as well as its relationship between intimacy, culture and politics.

We hope that the publication of some of our texts in Spanish, thanks to the support of La Casa Encendida of Fundación Montemadrid, is the beginning of a new series of conversations and actions in favor of greater emotional and political sensitivity in music criticism.
