Fake news, post-truth and alternative facts are destroying the field of information and playing their own role in redrawing public opinion. Ignacio Ramonet reflects on how the battle for power is waged in the media, which attempt to shape public opinion and minds on the basis of the interests of what is known as digital capitalism.

In the era of information overload, being informed is not easy. It's increasingly difficult to distinguish real news from fake news. Post-truth, alternative facts and fake news have burst dramatically onto the scene, making it extremely difficult for citizens to tell truth from fiction.

If Facebook knows us better than we know ourselves and knows, even before we do, who we are going to vote, what meaning does democracy have? If they've already managed to hack our brain, how are we to resist the unforeseen dangers of new technologies?
