Reforestation Projects and Climate Change in the Autonomous Region of Madri
Lecture to present the results of the ReforestaAcción project and discuss their implications for the future of the forests in the autonomous region of Madrid in light of the growing uncertainties facing us, especially as regards climate change.

Organised by Fundación Montemadrid, the aim of the lecture is to present the results of the ReforestaAcción project financed by the Regional Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning of the Autonomous Region of Madrid.
The project continues the long-term strategy of Fundación Montemadrid that began with the planting of a million trees in thirteen autonomous regions of Spain between 2002 and 2012, subsequently expanded to two million trees. ReforestaAcción consists in carrying out a survey to identify the most suitable areas for future reforestation in the autonomous region of Madrid, as well as the species and reforestation methods that would be the most beneficial from the social and environmental points of view. The methodology used for this project can be reutilised in other geographical areas.
The lecture will involve two guest speakers: Ira Stern, who developed one of the first payment systems for environmental services in New York City within the framework of forestry management in the state of New York, and María José Sanz, member of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), expert on soil, land use and forestry, former director of the REDD programme of the FAO and currently director of BC3 (Basque Centre for Climate Change). The two speakers will talk about their experience with the ForestaAcción project and its relationship with climate change, as well as giving their views on reforestation projects and the forest management sector worldwide.
