Häxan by Benjamin Christensen. Denmark, 1922. 105’. Original intertitles in Danish with Spanish subtitles

A blend of documentary and dramatic fiction, this film reveals the connections between people of the Middle Ages (their attitudes and the proliferation of witches and warlocks) and certain modern-day situations. A survey of the occult, black magic and witchcraft through the ages that paints a fascinating, spine-chilling picture of the dark side of history. Partly based on a 15th-century German guide for inquisitors. Set to live electronic music performed by Akasha and Lo súper.

Akasha and Lo súper are two Madrid-based artists who have created musical accompaniment for different films by Fritz Lang, Antonin Artaud, Segundo de Chomón and Yakov Protazanov, screened at venues across Spain. They explore the bonds of identity that exist between sound, music and the moving image, emphasising the importance of sound design in the cinematographic arts and other audiovisual experiences.
