ClimaX the Musical: Mondiacult

Fundación Montemadrid is taking part in Mondiacult 2025, the world’s biggest cultural policy conference, dedicated this year to the theme of sustainable development, with the project ClimaX the Musical.

ClimaX the Musical stems from the observation that the climate crisis lacks languages that resonate with young people. The aim is to create a cultural object designed by and for them, incorporating narratives that engage and interest them.

The musical format is unique—the musical element stimulates and unites, while the stories speak to the young people about issues that engage them—and creating a musical is a highly motivating endeavour when it comes to thinking about the climate crisis.

The project is built around the capacity to imagine better futures, because if they aren't imagined those futures may never materialise.

On 25 September, prior to Mondiacult, La Casa Encendida will host a dialogue between two schools. Workshops involving creative activities and conversations about the climate will lead to the generation of a piece of music in collaboration with artists.

Both events form part of a broader process through which Fundación Montemadrid promotes collaborations with schools, artists and institutions. This a high-impact project on knowledge about the climate crisis and the narratives and cultural expressions related to it.

Programme

This event adopts the format of a show in which everyone has a role to play. It is thanks to collaborations, co-creation, appropriation of the space by children and young people and creative inspiration that we can create a place in which to tell this story.

We propose an encounter with the general public in which they can also participate, listen to the schools’ proposals, feel part of a different narrative about climate change and discover the role that institutions play in promoting culture through active listening and facilitation. There will be moments to talk, sing and even dance.

- Part 1: There is a place

Inspirational opening, presentation of the preliminary processes of the project and conversation with the audience.

- Part 2: Direct connection to schools and presentation of the results of the side project carried out on 25 September.

Listening to the schools’ voices, learning about all the work conducted with them prior to Mondiacult. The choreographer Patricia Ruz will encourage active participation by the audience.

- Part 3: Other protagonists

Contextualisation of the proposal as part of ClimaX the Musical in 2030 and the projects and actions related to it. Reflection by the institutions, artists and schools on what it has meant to collaborate in this process from the triple perspective of children’s empowerment, creativity and the cultural sector.

- Part 4: closure

Musical performance reflecting the dreams, wishes and vision of the schools. Courtesy of the artists Oscar Bueno and Anto Rodríguez.
