Can the dreams of children and the educational community be the first step towards creating a regenerated future? Can culture—specifically, a musical—be the appropriate vehicle for communicating the schools’ climate missions?
Fundación Montemadrid is taking part in Mondiacult 2025, the world’s biggest cultural policy conference, dedicated this year to the theme of sustainable development, with the project ClimaX the Musical.
ClimaX the Musical stems from the observation that scientists, the media, politicians and even activists communicate the climate crisis in languages that fail to connect with young people. The project therefore aims to create a cultural object designed by and for them, using narratives that engage and interest them.
Can a school be the focal point of the climate regeneration of a neighbourhood? Can children’s dreams and the educational community be the first step to creating a regenerated future? And can culture—specifically, music, a musical—be the appropriate vehicle for communicating the schools’ climate missions?
The educational communities of two schools in Madrid—Colegio Valle Inclán in the San Blas neighbourhood and Centro Educativo Ponce de León, an inclusive space where 50% of the pupils have a hearing disability—address social challenges and both are affected in different ways by climate issues. The purpose of this event is to encourage a dialogue between the two communities focused on exploring the climate and human TREASURES of their communities and dreaming about desirable futures.
They will spend a morning in the Courtyard at La Casa Encendida talking to each other through a series of workshops mediated by experts, and then guided by two artists they will turn their revelations and wishes into songs. The initiative aims to highlight the vital role that art and culture play in climate communication.
The results of the session and the musical proposals will be taken to Mondiacult, the world conference on cultural policy and sustainable development that will be held in Barcelona from 29 September to 1 October.
