Manuela D'Avila + Lorena Iglesias

Manuela Pinto Vieira D’Avila (Brazil, 1981) is a Brazilian journalist, politician and member of the Communist Party of Brazil. She served as a federal deputy for Rio Grande Do Sul from 2007 to 2015. In 2013, she was her party’s leader in the Chamber of Deputies. She currently serves as a provincial deputy in her home state. She has just published the book Revolução Laura: reflexões sobre maternidade & resistência.

In conversation with: Gabriela Wiener (Peru, 1975) is a writer, chronicler, poet and journalist who has lived in Spain since 2003. She has published the books Sexografías, Nueve Lunas, Llamada perdida and Dicen de mí and the poetry volume Ejercicios para el endurecimiento del espíritu. Her texts have appeared in national and international anthologies and have been translated into English, Portuguese, French and Italian. Her first articles were published in Etiqueta Negra magazine. She was editor-in-chief of the Spanish edition of Marie Claire magazine. She writes for La República, El Salto, El País and The New York Times en español, among other periodicals.

In conversation with: Najat El Hachmi (Morocco, 1979) was born in Morocco after her father had immigrated to Catalonia, and she joined him in Vic when she was eight years old. In 2004 she published the autobiographical book Jo també sóc catalana. Her second book, The Last Patriarch, won the 2008 Premi Ramon Llull and the 2009 Prix Ulysse for best first novel and was shortlisted for the 2009 Prix Méditerranée Étranger. Originally written in Catalan, it has been translated into numerous languages, including Spanish, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Romanian and Arabic. Her latest novel is Mare de llet i mel. In addition to her literary output, Najat El Hachmi writes for the press, sharing her reflections on themes such as women, immigration and contemporary Catalan society.

Lorena Iglesias Lista is a comic, actress and audiovisual creator. As a member of the collective Canódromo Abandonado, since 2012 she has explored video and filmmaking (La tumba de Bruce Lee, 2013), theatre (Tres en coma, 2014) and live performance. She created and starred in the web series Pampini and Bebé Seco, which take a humorous look at topics such as job insecurity and ageism. She is currently working on her first solo film about an artist of menstrual art. She gives live comedy performances, contributes to radio programmes and takes part in feminist events like the recent Conference on Feminist Ontologies: Divine and Precarious Youth. Her stand-up session will address these and other vital themes such as trap at forty and her ASMR project.
