A Meeting Between artist Chiara Bersani and sociologist Mariella Popolla

In this meeting, Bersani and Popolla will talk about their experience during the ethnographic research project on “disability and performing arts professionals” in which they were jointly involved between 2019 and 2020.

Duration: 1 hour

­­Chiara Bersani is an artist who works in the field of the visual and performing arts. As an actress se has collaborated with important artists and companies of the contemporary European scene, such as Lenz Rifrazioni, Alessandro Sciarroni, La Tristura, Rodrigo Garcia, Jérôme Bel or Babilonia Teatri. In 2016 she began a co-creation project with choreographer Marco D'Agostin, based on political, ethical and artistic proximity. Their first creation, The Olympic Games, enjoyed international support and was coproduced by K3, Kampnaghel and the European project BeSpeectACTive!. Her first solo production, presented at this edition of the ÍDEM festival, is the performance piece, Gentle Unicorn.

Mariella Popolla is a doctor in Social Sciences and Sociology. She is a researcher in Sociology of Economic and Labour Processes at the Department of Education Sciences of the University of Genoa. She is assistant professor of Sociology of Economic and Labour Processes at the Department of Health Sciences (Dissal). She is a member of the editorial board of the AG-About Gender-International Journal of Gender Studies. She collaborates with the Regional Social Observatory for the production of the Gender Violence Report in Tuscany.

Popolla deals with the processes of social construction of genders and sexualities, gender violence and homo-bi-lesbo-transphobic violence, sexuality and its representations (especially from the point of view of pornography), and the interactions between disability and work in the performing arts. She is currently involved in online research into gender violence. She recently published the book Eppur mi piace ... Immaginari e lavoro tra femminismi e pornografie.
