In West Berlin, a strange man wearing a metal mask over half of his face invites Cheryl and her friend Kathy to a screening at the Metropol cinema. They begin to watch a horror film about a group of young people who venture into the tunnels beneath a cemetery, where they discover and desecrate Nostradamus’s tomb and fall prey to an evil mask found there. A young woman in the audience is attacked by an identical mask on display in the lobby and begins to transform into a terrible creature who attacks the other guests, turning them into zombies with a taste for human flesh.
Lamberto Bava (Rome, 1944), son of legendary giallo director Mario Bava and protégé of Dario Argento, is an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter specialised in horror and fantasy. After co-directing the TV production La Venere d’Ille with his father in 1980, the year of Mario's death, Lamberto shot his solo debut Macabre. Between 1985 and 1986, he directed one of the best horror film sagas, Demons, with the production assistance of Dario Argento, although he is best known for his giallo films A Blade in the Dark (1983), Delirium (1987) and Body Puzzle (1992).
